Snowboard/Ski Cross
Overall Program Goals:
Note, the program goals follow the same structure for both disciplines.
The programs are designed to further develop good training habits on and off the
snow. On snow, the primary focus is to develop strong technical and
tactical riding/skiing skills. Competitions are used as a measure of an
athlete’s skill development. Off snow, athletes will be introduced to a
winter maintenance strength and conditioning program and will
utilize a custom on-line logbook to monitor training and recovery.
Athletes will also participant in a mental skills assessment and analysis
to begin developing mental toughness.
Typically, athletes will spend 2-3 years in this stage and progressively increase the
number of training days from 32 to 45 to 60 each year. This allows
for athletes to gain skills and experience success training and
competing provincially before travelling further for camps and bigger
events.
Key Areas of Focus:
Discipline specialization.
Increasing training volume and intensity as athlete’s progress through the stage.
Consolidate all-mountain free ride/ski skills
